Looking for Operating Theatre Assistant

We are looking for The Operating Theatre Assistant urgently. OTA provides essential clinical and operational support to the surgical team to ensure the smooth, safe, and efficient functioning of the Operating Theatre (OT). The incumbent will assist in preparing operating rooms, transporting patients, handling surgical instruments and equipment, and maintaining cleanliness and infection control standards.

This role plays a critical part in supporting surgeons, nurses, and anaesthetists in delivering high-quality perioperative care within a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

Operating Theatre Support

• Prepare operating theatres prior to surgical procedures

• Assist in setting up surgical equipment, instruments, and consumables

• Ensure operating rooms are adequately stocked and ready for procedures

• Assist nursing staff during surgical cases as required

Patient Support

• Safely transfer and transport patients between wards, OT, recovery areas, and diagnostic departments

• Assist with positioning patients for surgical procedures

• Provide basic reassurance and support to patients before and after procedures

• Ensure patient safety and dignity during transfers

Equipment & Instrument Handling

• Clean, check, and transport surgical instruments and equipment

• Assist in handling sterile supplies and consumables

• Ensure equipment is functioning properly and report faults promptly

• Support inventory and stock replenishment activities

Infection Control & Housekeeping

• Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of operating theatres and surrounding areas

• Adhere strictly to infection prevention and control protocols

• Assist with terminal cleaning after surgical procedures

• Dispose of clinical waste according to hospital guidelines

Operational Support

• Assist in maintaining smooth workflow within the OT complex

• Respond promptly to ad hoc operational requests

• Support emergency surgical activation when required

• Ensure compliance with hospital safety policies and procedures

Requirements

• Minimum GCE ‘N’ Level or Certificate in Healthcare-related discipline

• At least 2 year of relevant operating theatre or hospital experience preferred

• Candidates without relevant experience but willing to learn may be considered

• Strong teamwork and collaboration skills

• Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative

• Physically fit and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment

• Basic knowledge of operating theatre procedures and equipment preferred

Experience

• Prior experience in healthcare, operating theatre, or hospital support services preferred

• Candidates without experience but willing to learn may be considered
