Project Manager-Market Expansion

The company is an expanding retail company with headquarters in Indonesia and Singapore. The company is going through rapid expansion plan to other southeast asia countries.


Project Manager (Market Expansion) is responsible for the company’s expansion plan to other Asia Pacific and Southeast Asia countries. The candidate is responsible for driving growth by opening new markets, setting up retail outlets, and building alternative, non-traditional sales channels (e.g. online, partners, pop-ups). The role combines strategic planning, market analysis, and hands-on execution to establish a strong presence and sustainable revenue in new territories


Key Responsibilities

1.     Market Expansion

a.     Conduct market research to identify and prioritize new geographic and segment opportunities for retail optician industry

b.     Develop market entry strategies, including channel mix, pricing approach, and positioning.

c.     Prepare business cases and rollout plans for new markets and new store openings.

2.     Project Management

a.     Lead the end-to-end setup of new retail stores (budgeting, timeline, site selection input, layout concept, staffing plan, launch timeline).

b.     Coordinate with Operations, Marketing, Finance, and HR to ensure successful store opening and ramp-up.

c.     Monitor performance of new stores and implement corrective action plans to reach sales and profitability targets.

d.     Act as primary liaison between Singapore HQ team and country teams

3.     Operations Setup & Compliance

a.     Manage regulatory requirements, business registration, licensing, local compliance, and industry standards.

b.     Localize SOPs based on Singapore HQ’s operational framework (HR, finance, inventory, service standards).

c.     Support hiring, onboarding, and training of operations staff

4.     Vendor, Supplier and Partner Management

a.     Source and negotiate with vendors: landlords, contractors, optical suppliers, marketing partners, logistics, and IT providers.

b.     Build partnerships with local agencies, business associations, and potential collaborators.

5.     Business Development

a.     Identify, evaluate, and launch non-traditional sales models (e.g. e-commerce, marketplaces, pop-up stores, kiosks, consignment, distributors, agents).

b.     Negotiate and manage relationships with external partners and distributors in new channels.

c.     Develop and implement sales programs, promotions, and campaigns tailored to each channel.

6.     Financial and Budget management

a.     Set market development KPIs (store productivity, new customer acquisition, channel mix, payback period) and report performance regularly.

b.     Analyze sales, customer, and competitor data from new markets and recommend continuous improvements

7.     Brand Standards & Quality Assurance

a.     Ensure all new markets, stores, and channels comply with company policies and local regulations.

b.     Conduct regular audits and initiate improvement initiatives

c.     Collaborate closely with Marketing to build localized go-to-market plans and brand awareness in new markets.

d.     Provide feedback to Product and Supply Chain teams on demand trends and assortment needs in new markets and channels.

e.     Train and support local sales and store teams on value proposition, customer experience standards, and commercial priorities.


Requirement and Qualification

  • Possess a degree from reputable university

  • Strong proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), scheduling tools

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Strong attention to detail, high level of discretion, and ability to work independently.

  • Ability to prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Open to candidate without experience in retail or project expansion. The company will give 6 months training to ramp up the candidate's knowledge

  • Willing to learn and Willing to travel
